Michael C. Caliendo began sailing as an Ordinary Seaman in 1976, working on tugs and light product barges. Mike progressed to Able Seaman, Mate, and then Master/First Class Pilot. Mike has spent the last 42 years working on the Great Lakes and in various shoreside positions from Port Captain, Director of Operations, Vice President – Transportation Group, President – Transportation Group, and currently as Chief Operating Officer. Mike has been with Andrie Inc. for 29 of those 42 years. Prior to sailing, Mike studied for two years at the State University of New York-Oneonta. He has continued his education at various institutions, including the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor.
Mike has extensive experience in special projects and maritime operations including all types of towing, ATBs, and tank barges.
In 2003, the Secretary of Homeland Security appointed Mike to the Towing Safety Advisory Committee (TSAC). TSAC is a Federal Advisory Committee that advises the United States Coast Guard on safety issues including those related to licensing, firefighting, inspection, and various other safety related regulatory issues. Mike has been awarded the United States Coast Guard Public Service Commendation for his work on the committee.
Mike also has experience developing spill response plans, standard operating procedures, crew training and performance based programs such as the Andrie LLC Master’s Incentive Program.
