Andrie Junior Development Cycling Team

MUSKEGON, Michigan – Danielle Mullis of the Andrie Junior Development Cycling Team competed at the Junior Track Nationals in Carson, California from June 25 – 29, 2014, where she set a new national record in the flying 250m lap. Danielle won the Points Race, this is a race where riders compete at a set distance and every 10 laps they ring a bell then sprint for points. The rider at the end of the race with the most amount of points wins the race, regardless of who crosses the line first on the final lap.

Danielle then won the Scratch Race, which is a traditional race where the first rider to cross the finish line on the final lap wins the race.

Danielle then teamed up with Julie Santos to compete in the Women's Team Sprint.  In this event both riders start the race, and after the first lap the lead rider drops off while the remaining rider completes the final lap on their own.  The total time that Danielle and Julia were able to complete this race not only won the event but also automatically qualified them for competition at Junior Tracks Worlds in Korea this August.  By winning these events Danielle was awarded a Stars and Stripes jersey giving her 3 national titles in addition to her wins. Danielle also won a silver medal in both the Match Sprints and Keirin events followed by a bronze medal in the Women's Ominum event giving her 6 medals overall.

On July 1, 2014 the team left for Junior Road Nationals in Madison, Wisconsin. The first event was the Girl's 17-18 Road Race where Janelle Cole repeated her win to claim her second National Road Race Title in two years.

On Friday, July 4th, the team competed in the Time Trial course and Janelle Cole rode to a silver medal over the 20k course, while Danielle Mullis rode to a 7th place finish and Morgan McKey finished 14th.  Logan Zueger placed 9th and Nick McKey finished 28th in the boys 15-16 age group.

On Sunday, July 6, the team competed in the Criterium event on a course that circles the Capital building in downtown Madison.  In the boy's 15-16 race Stu Cole, Nick McKey and Logan Zueger rode very strongly as a team and they were able to get Logan to the front of the field on the last lap.  Logan sprinted with 200m to go and he was able to finish in 5th place and make it onto his first ever National Championship podium.

In the Women's race Janelle Cole, Danielle Mullis and Morgan McKey repeatedly attacked the field, and with 2 laps to go, Janelle was able to establish a 10 second lead that she held onto all the way to the finish.  After two solid weeks of racing Danielle finished in the 5th spot. Morgan held onto a 19th place finish after pulling for her teammates in the final two laps.

Overall the team ended Road Nationals with two more Nationals Championship Stars and Stripes jerseys and 4 medals overall, bringing the two week total to 10 medals. Janelle Cole will likely be selected for the U.S. National Team in upcoming weeks which will compete in Spain this September at the Road Racing World Championships.

The 17-18 age class places 3 spots on the podium because riders in this age group are selected to compete at the World Championships, while the Junior events in the 9-16 age class place 5 riders on the podium in each event.
