Andrie Enters Strategic Partnership with Occidental Chemical Corporation

MUSKEGON, Michigan – Effective December 29, 2010, Andrie Inc. has entered into a contract with Occidental Chemical Corporation of Dallas, Texas to operate and manage the Tug Spartan and Barge Spartan II.

With an overall length of 468 feet and a width of 60 feet, the barge will carry approximately 8,000 tons of calcium chloride from Ludington, Michigan to select ports on the Great Lakes. The articulated tug / barge unit is equipped for St. Lawrence Seaway transits, is ice-strengthened, and capable of year round service.

Calcium chloride is used in everything from drying agents to food additives. It is also used on roads to prevent ice formation as it is relatively harmless to both plants and soil. The Occident Chemical Plant in Ludington, Michigan produces approximately 35% of the US's total calcium chloride production capacity.

"We are excited to add the Spartan and Spartan II to our existing fleet," said Stan Andrie, President of Andrie Inc. "We look forward to our new partnership with Occidental Chemical Corporation."
